Rome is preparing to confer Italian citizenship on Argentina’s President Javier Milei, according to reports from local media citing government sources.
Milei, who is scheduled to visit Italy on Friday for a meeting with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, will receive citizenship by descent, as his grandparents hailed from Italy, Il Post reported. The Argentinian president has frequently highlighted his family’s roots — his grandparents emigrated from Calabria, in southern Italy, to Argentina in 1926. Alongside Milei, his sister and chief adviser, Karina Milei, will also be granted Italian citizenship.
