Germany to Reassess Israel Weapons Exports, Foreign Minister States

Wadephul emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself, including using German weapons, but criticized the humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where Israel is targeting Hamas in response to an attack in October 2023.

“The aid reaching Gaza is insufficient,” he stated. “This is about basic human rights. The vulnerable are the first to suffer.”

Consequently, Wadephul mentioned, “we have altered our stance and may adjust our political actions.”

In Germany, traditionally a strong ally of Israel in Europe, there are increasing calls, especially from center-left Social Democratic lawmakers, to halt weapons deliveries. Conservative Chancellor Friedrich Merz has heightened his rhetoric but remains undecided on exports.

Germany authorized €326.5 million in arms exports to Israel in 2023, a significant increase from previous years, according to Reuters. However, approvals halved in 2024 due to mounting domestic and international pressure.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar is scheduled to visit Berlin next week.

Right, so we’re giving our old mate Israel a pat on the back with one hand while fumbling about with the other, trying to toss them a humanitarian lifebuoy. Classic German engineering – always building but never quite finishing the job, innit? 🤷‍♂️🇩🇪

Guess it’s time for a diplomatic tango, eh? One minute we’re sending arms, next we’re trying to find our moral compass in a game of political hopscotch. 🤷‍♂️💼

Isn’t it charming how Germany’s newfound moral compass only kicks in when the arms are flying off the shelves? 🤷‍♂️ It’s like being a chef who suddenly remembers he forgot to check the ingredients just as the dinner bell rings. 🍽️

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a little armchair diplomacy mixed with weaponry, eh? 😏 Let’s just hope the humanitarian aid gets a VIP pass while the bombs have a first-class ticket!

Oh great, just what we needed – a political tango over arms while the folks in Gaza are stuck in the crossfire. 🥴 Let’s just hope the next export is some common sense instead of more weapons, eh?

Nice to see Germany playing the political tango again—arms to one side, humanitarian concerns to the other. 🎭 Maybe next they’ll throw in a waltz for good measure! 💃🇩🇪

Oh brilliant, just what we needed—Germany’s moral compass suddenly kicking in after sending a truckload of weapons. Who knew human rights came with a side of bureaucracy? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Germany’s playing a cheeky game of “let’s sell arms but also pretend to care” – it’s like a bad rom-com where no one really gets what they want! 🤷‍♂️💼

Looks like Germany’s decision-making is as clear as a foggy day in London. Just what we need—more weapons talk and less actual help for those in need. 🤷‍♂️

Just what we needed, eh? A classic case of “let’s send more toys to the playground while the kids are fighting” – brilliant strategy, mate! 😏

Looks like Germany’s having a real crisis of conscience—who knew the land of beer and bratwurst would be so torn over sending a few extra weapons? 🤷‍♂️ Maybe next they’ll hold a seminar on “How to Support Your Friends While Pretending to Care.” 🍺✨

Oh brilliant, just what we need—Germany’s weapons going from our hands to theirs while we ponder if we should have a little heart. 🤔 Who knew diplomacy was just a game of “who’s more humanitarian”? 🍷

Looks like Germany’s playing a game of “will they, won’t they” with weapons exports—bet you didn’t see that plot twist coming! 🎭 €326.5 million in arms, but hey, let’s not forget the human rights angle, right? Classic! 😂

Seems like Germany’s found a new hobby—playing the “let’s reassess our weaponry” game while trying to keep up with the humanitarian scoreboard. Just what we needed, a political juggling act with a side of moral dilemma! 🇩🇪🤷‍♂️
