Paris (Eurotoday) – French President Emmanuel Macron expressed that the Iranian nuclear program is approaching the point of no return.
Macron said that France would need to have a strategic conversation concerning Iran with U.S. President Donald Trump’s leadership. He stated that leaders would need to question themselves if they should introduce a sanctions restoration instrument on Iran before October 2025.
Emmanuel Macron says Iran is the leading strategic and security threat in the Middle East, noting the acceleration of its nuclear program and backing for Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“Iran is the main strategic and security challenge for France, the Europeans, the entire region and beyond,”
Macron states in an address to ambassadors, adding the matter would be a critical subject of conversation with the latest administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

He further states the West must not be naive regarding the new management in Syria after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad and guarantees France will not leave Kurdish fighters. “We must consider the regime shift in Syria without naivete,” Macron expresses, adding France will not leave “freedom fighters, like the Kurds” who are opposing extremist groups in Syria.
How does France challenge Iran’s nuclear activity?
Emmanuel Macron has stressed that Tehran’s return to compliance with its obligations under the accord was urged because no agreement emerged from negotiations. His administration claimed that the JCPOA represents an essential structure to prevent Iran’s nuclear weapons program and has approached Iranian leaders along with other world superpowers to possibly save the accord as it encounters new challenges every day.
