Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for the areas of Ukraine currently under Kyiv’s control to be placed “under the NATO umbrella.” Speaking to Sky News, Zelenskyy emphasized that such a framework should still uphold Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders, signaling a commitment to the country’s territorial integrity despite ongoing conflict.
Zelenskyy’s remarks reflect Ukraine’s ongoing push for stronger Western security guarantees as it continues to resist Russian aggression. This proposal could mark a significant step in bolstering Ukraine’s defense and aligning it more closely with NATO, even as territorial disputes in the east remain unresolved.
The statement highlights Kyiv’s efforts to secure greater international support while maintaining its stance on sovereignty and territorial unity.
