Paris – Traditionally critical of “Ursula von der Leyen’s Europe,” Jordan Bardella is now advocating for Brussels to establish a “balance of power” with Washington, as the transatlantic crisis alters dynamics within the far right.
From Strasbourg, the leader of the Patriots in the European Parliament strongly condemned the United States’ intentions regarding Greenland, alongside an ultimatum about customs duties aimed at European nations resisting these ambitions, particularly France.
“When an American president openly threatens a European state, combining territorial pressure with explicit commercial coercion (…) a balance of power is essential,” he stated.
In response to this “test of power (and) of truth” posed by the U.S. leader, “submitting would be a historic mistake,” Bardella emphasized, specifically calling for the “immediate” suspension of the trade agreement forged last summer between the EU and the United States.
