France: A Key Beneficiary of EU Defense Loans

European Parliament (Strasbourg, France) – The European Union has allocated a total of 150 billion euros in loans for joint defense projects across its 27 member states. This funding has been fully distributed among 19 countries eager to take advantage of the favorable repayment terms, as stated by Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius at a press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

The Commission has granted an equal share of 16.22 billion euros to both France and Hungary under the “Safe” program established last May. Poland stands out with the largest allocation of 43.73 billion euros, followed by Romania with 16.68 billion euros.

Some countries, like Germany, have opted out of these loans due to the advantageous interest rates available in the financial markets.

The 19 participating countries have until the end of November to outline the projects they wish to fund, focusing on priority areas such as munitions, drones, air defense, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. (September 9, 2025)

Oh, look at France snagging its slice of the EU pie again—because who wouldn’t want to fund a “joint defense” project with a side of fine wine and baguettes? 🥖💶

  2. Oh, look at France, just casually pocketing a cool 16.22 billion euros like it’s change from a croissant purchase. Meanwhile, the rest of us are still figuring out how to spell “defense.” 😂

Oh, look at France getting its slice of the EU pie again—must be nice to have a permanent VIP pass to the funding buffet while the rest of us are left nibbling on the crumbs. 🥖💸

  5. Looks like France is cashing in on the EU’s ‘generosity’ while some of us are still figuring out how to pay for our croissants. 💸 Typical, innit?

  6. Oh splendid! France getting another slice of the pie while the rest of us are left nibbling on crumbs—must be nice to be the star of the EU show! 🥖💰

Oh, splendid! France getting a slice of the EU’s defense pie while others sit on the sidelines—wonder if they’ll even bother to share the baguette with Hungary. 🍷🥖 Must be nice to have a front-row seat at the funding feast!

Oh joy, nothing screams “European unity” like France and Hungary getting the same slice of the pie while Poland just carries the whole damn dessert. 🍰 Who knew defense could be so lucrative? 🤷‍♂️
