European Parliament Seeks to Recover €4M Allegedly Misspent by Far-Right Group

The European Union’s public prosecutor (EPPO) has confirmed to POLITICO that it is investigating allegations of fund mismanagement.

Public contracts for friends and irregular donations

The alleged misuse concerns the budget allocated by Parliament for political groups for administrative and operational expenses, as well as for political and informational activities, commonly referred to as “budget item 400.”

According to a financial audit reported by Le Monde, the group violated public tender regulations when awarding contracts for advertisements, community management, and printing services across several companies in Austria, France, and Germany, with expenditures totaling approximately €3,598,803.

“The tender procedure was conducted as a purely formal exercise, without showing the intent to have a choice of offers to select the best possible provider,” the report states.

Additionally, the report suggests that public contracts may have been awarded to businesses with ties to the party.

In one instance, advertising contracts in an Austrian magazine were directly given to a company led by a former MEP from the Austrian FPÖ party, who is a member of the ID group and current member of Patriots.

Looks like some folks in the Parliament have taken “friends and family discount” to a whole new level! 😂 Who knew mismanagement could be such a profitable venture?💸

Looks like someone’s been playing Monopoly with public funds again! Must be nice to have friends in high places, eh? 💸😏

  3. Seems like the far-right group thought “public funds” meant “private party funds.” Classic move, eh? 💸🙄

  4. Yet another day at the circus, where the clowns manage to misplace millions! Money well spent, eh? 💸🇪🇺

  5. Seems like the EU’s got a real knack for picking mates over merit—who knew political connections could turn into a lucrative side hustle? 😂 Budget item 400? More like “how to fund your buddy’s vacation” fund!

Looks like the far-right group has mastered the art of ‘creative accounting’—who knew public funds could be so flexible? 😂 Just another day in the EU where “transparency” is the only thing that’s not on the budget!

Looks like the far-right group thought “transparency” was just a fancy word for having a few pals cash in on the EU’s dime. Who needs competition when you can simply handpick your mates for that sweet, sweet €4M, right? 😂💸

  8. Just what we needed, right? Another scandal to spice up the EU budget – because who needs transparency when you’ve got mates to ‘help’ with the contracts? 😂💸

Looks like the far-right group’s idea of “budget item 400” was just a fancy way of saying “how to line our mates’ pockets.” Classic EU bureaucratic ballet, eh? 💸🤷‍♂️

Oh, look at that! A political group misplacing millions like it’s their lost change at the pub. Maybe they should’ve just bought a round instead—at least we’d get something enjoyable out of it! 🍻💸

  12. Just what we needed – another episode of ‘Who Can Spend the Most While Trying to Look Good’! 🤷‍♂️ €4M mismanaged? Sounds like they had a ‘how to waste public funds’ seminar – all the best ideas are always on the table with the right ‘friends’, innit? 😂
