The European Parliament office for the Western Balkans is set to open soon in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
Elisa Spiropali, the Speaker of the Assembly of Albania, met with EU ambassador Silvio Gonzato and Tatiana Mrazikova, the head of the new European Parliament office, at the Assembly’s Presidency.
Spiropali referred to the office as “the antenna of the European Parliament for the Western Balkans” and highlighted its role in boosting integration and cooperation among regional countries, as well as enhancing Albania’s leadership in these initiatives.
This Representation Office will facilitate and reinforce integration efforts and enhance collaboration between the European Parliament, the Assembly of Albania, and the parliaments of other Western Balkan nations.
Earlier this year, the Fourth Intergovernmental Conference took place in Luxembourg, resulting in the opening of another negotiation chapter concerning the Internal Market for EU-Albania relations.
Albania aims to finalize its last negotiation chapters this year, with a target of achieving EU membership by 2030.
The Albanian government, the Assembly, the judiciary, and other institutions are committed to advancing European reforms necessary to fulfill membership requirements.
Support for the nation’s EU integration has also been echoed by the opposition, and recent Eurobarometer findings indicate a strong backing for EU membership in Albania, at 91%. (September 4)
