European Commissioner labels Gaza situation as “genocide”, criticizes inaction of the 27

Paris – Teresa Ribera, the Commissioner for Competition and Vice-President of the Commission overseeing the Clean, Fair, and Competitive Transition, expressed on Thursday that “the genocide in Gaza underscores Europe’s failure to unify in action and voice, even amid rising protests across European cities,” during her address at the Sciences Po Paris graduate school.

The Twenty-Seven have been notably divided regarding their approach to Israel since the onset of its conflict in Gaza with Hamas, following an unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist group on October 7, 2023, on Israeli territory.

While some nations, such as Germany, advocate for Israel’s right to self-defense in line with international law, others, including Spain, have been labeling the situation as a “genocide” against the Palestinian people in Gaza for several months.

The Commission proposed halting certain European funding for Israeli startups; however, this initiative has yet to gain approval from the member states. (September 4, 2025)

Looks like the EU is really showing us how to take a stand—by doing absolutely nothing, as usual. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe they’re just waiting for the next summit to talk it over with their fancy croissants. 🥐

Seems like Europe’s got its knickers in a twist again—calling it “genocide” while they dither over funding for startups. Priorities, eh? 🙄💼

  3. Isn’t it charming how Europe can’t seem to agree on anything, yet we all know how to throw around terms like “genocide” and “self-defense” like confetti at a wedding? 🎉 Meanwhile, the only thing truly united here is the inaction – absolutely marvellous! 🥴

Just what we need, another grandstanding moment from the EU while the world burns. Maybe they should get together over a glass of wine and sort out their “bloody” differences before labeling anything else! 🍷✨

  5. Looks like the only thing more divided than the 27 is their sense of urgency. Maybe we should just send a strongly worded email instead of actually doing something. 🙄💼

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “unity” like 27 countries arguing over whose turn it is to wave a flag while the world burns. 🤷‍♂️ Genocide? More like a masterclass in bureaucratic indecision! 🥴

  7. Incredible, isn’t it? The 27 can’t seem to agree on lunch orders, let alone a coherent stance on a humanitarian crisis. 😂

Oh, brilliant! Nothing like a little “genocide” chat from the Commission while we all sit on our hands and pretend to be united. Truly, Europe at its finest—where action is just a fancy word for a long coffee break ☕️.
