Europe needs to enhance its leverage over Russia (study)

Paris – “European nations possess the necessary resources, including economic assets, military capabilities, and technological expertise to confront Russia by 2030, provided there is political determination,” states Thomas Gomart, director of IFRI, who led a study titled “Europe-Russia: Assessment of the Balance of Power.”

Militarily, European forces have a distinct edge in air, naval, cyber, and space operations, yet “Russia maintains a significant advantage on land due to its firepower and numbers, unlike European armies which are ill-equipped for such conflicts,” the expert emphasizes.

Consequently, Europe needs to “speed up efforts to resolve personnel and capability gaps,” particularly concerning ammunition supplies, long-range strikes, and air defense systems.

In the scenario of a major operation, the principal forces would be contributed by just six nations, including France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. (November 4, 2025)

Looks like Europe’s got all the toys but forgot to read the manual! Let’s hope they can find the light switch before the party starts. 😂

Oh, brilliant! So, we’ve got all the fancy tech and fancy ideas, but when it comes to the actual “heave-ho,” it’s just six countries turning up to the party. Classic Europe! 😂

Oh sure, let’s just whip up a military strategy while sipping espresso at a café, because nothing says “serious power play” like a leisurely brunch with a side of geopolitical maneuvering. 🍷💼

Oh, brilliant, just what we need—another study telling us we’ve got the resources but not the will. Guess we’ll just keep our fingers crossed and hope Russia doesn’t notice we’re still sorting out our “personnel and capability gaps”! 😂💼

Right, so we’ve got the recipe for success: a dash of political will, a sprinkle of military might, and voilà! Europe’s secret weapon against Russia—if only we could find it under all that bureaucracy! 😏✈️

Oh sure, let’s all just rally around the idea that Europe’s gonna flex its muscles by 2030—right after we find our missing socks and fix the Wi-Fi. 🙄💼

Oh, brilliant! Who knew all those fancy resources and tech could be so handy if only we could find the will to, you know, actually use them? 🤷‍♂️ Typical Europe, always ready for a tea party instead of a real showdown! 😂

Brilliant, so we’re relying on just six nations to save the day while the rest of us sip our espressos and pretend to be interested. What a marvellous strategy! 🇪🇺💼

Oh sure, because nothing says “let’s unite” quite like a bunch of nations trying to figure out who’s got the biggest military toys. I can hardly wait for the next EU summit where we’ll debate who gets the last biscuit while Russia polishes its tanks. 😂

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need — another study to remind us that we have the resources but not the guts to use them. Classic Europe, isn’t it? 😂💼

Oh, brilliant! So, all we need is a sprinkle of determination and we’ll be ready to tango with Russia by 2030, eh? Meanwhile, maybe we should all invest in some comfy chairs to sit and watch while we “enhance our leverage.” 😂

  12. Oh sure, because nothing screams “we’ve got it all figured out” like a bunch of countries trying to coordinate a bake sale while Russia brings the tanks. 😏🇪🇺

Oh, brilliant, so we’ve got all the toys but no batteries, right? 🤦‍♂️ Europe’s like a kid with a fancy bike but no idea how to ride it – maybe we should just stick to coffee breaks instead of military strategies! ☕️💤

Oh sure, because nothing says “let’s negotiate” quite like flexing muscles while everyone else is stuck in traffic on the Champs-Élysées. Guess we’ll just have to hope our air defenses are as good as their vodka! 🍸💥

Oh, brilliant! So, we’re all set to take on Russia by 2030, provided we can find a magic wand to fill our ammo and personnel gaps. 😂 Let’s just hope the political will comes with a side of decent planning!

Oh sure, because nothing says “let’s face our problems head-on” like a bunch of nations trying to agree on whose turn it is to bring the biscuits to the meeting. 🍪

Oh, brilliant, just what we needed—a study telling us to “enhance leverage” over Russia. Because clearly, throwing a few more euros and some fancy tech at the problem has worked wonders in the past, right? 😏💰

  18. Right, so we’ve got the ‘powerhouse’ of Europe boasting about its tech and military might, while relying on just a handful of countries to do the heavy lifting. Classic EU efficiency, isn’t it? 😂

  19. Oh, brilliant! Just what we need—another study to tell us that Europe can’t find its socks while Russia brings the firepower. 🙄 Maybe we should put this on the fridge next to the takeaway menu, eh?

Brilliant! Europe has all the toys but still can’t decide who’s bringing the chips for the game night. 🍿 Maybe if we put our heads together, we can figure out how to play nice with the big bear next door, eh? 😏

Public support for expanding the EU eastwards is “slipping,” says a major new survey.
It found that majorities in most countries continue to view war torn Kyiv either as an “ally” or a “necessary partner”.
However, there is “markedly less enthusiasm and consensus” on subjects of long-term support such as sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine after the war and expanding the EU eastwards.
