EU Officials and 26 Foreign Ministers Call for NGO Access to Gaza

Brussels (dpa) – Delegates from 26 Western nations and the EU Commission are urging Israel to permit aid shipments into the Gaza Strip.

“All border crossings and routes should be utilized to facilitate a significant influx of aid to Gaza,” a collective statement asserts. This declaration was made by three EU commissioners, including EU foreign affairs representative Kaja Kallas, along with the foreign ministers of the majority of EU nations. Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom have also signed on, while Germany is notably absent.

“A famine is unfolding before us,” the statement warns. Immediate action is imperative to address this crisis. Essential supplies such as food, shelter, fuel, clean water, and medicine are urgently needed. Furthermore, the safety of civilians and aid workers at distribution sites must be ensured.

The representatives also called on the Israeli government to grant immediate and ongoing access to the United Nations, NGOs, and humanitarian organizations to the Palestinian territories.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently contended that there is no famine in the Gaza Strip, asserting that Israel has “flooded” the area with aid. He claimed that the only individuals facing starvation are the hostages held by Hamas. (August 12)

Seems like the EU is handing out more recommendations than a Michelin guide—just what we need, more paperwork while Gaza’s running on empty. 🤷‍♂️💼

Seems like the EU is really pulling out all the stops with their heartfelt “please, pretty please” letters. Maybe next they’ll send a singing telegram to Israel so they can really feel the urgency! 🇪🇺💌

Oh sure, because a heartfelt letter from 26 ministers is exactly what the situation in Gaza needs right now. Just what the doctor ordered! 🥴✉️

Looks like the EU is having another one of those “let’s all hold hands and sing Kumbaya” moments while the real drama unfolds. Who knew a diplomatic statement could be so effective in stopping famines? 😂✈️

Isn’t it just delightful how a bunch of well-fed officials in Brussels can solve a crisis with a simple statement? 🍽️ If only their words could magically truck in supplies! 🛻💨

Oh, look, another high-profile gathering of officials who are clearly experts in the art of saying “please” while twiddling their thumbs. 🤷‍♂️ At this rate, I might as well just throw some spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks! 🍝

Looks like our esteemed officials have finally discovered that Gaza’s not exactly a five-star resort; I suppose they think a few more “urgent” letters will magically turn the tide. 🤷‍♂️ Let’s just hope they can find the right postman! 📬

  8. Looks like 26 diplomats decided to play ‘Hunger Games’ with their statements – all while Germany’s gone for a coffee break! ☕️ Let’s hope their ‘urgent’ appeals actually stir up some action, or it’s just another round of bureaucratic charades. 🎭
