The “EU for Social Care” initiative is currently aiding 14 municipalities in Albania by enhancing social care services targeted at children and families in vulnerable situations. This three-year program, financially supported by the EU and implemented by UNICEF and World Vision Albania, aims to foster a more inclusive Albanian society, adhering to the principles of the European Pillar of Social Rights. The EU is committed to ensuring solidarity and providing equal opportunities for all.
At a recent event in Tirana, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced its intention to assist an additional 11 municipalities in 2025 through the Social Fund. This will involve both the creation of new social services and the enhancement of existing ones, aimed at supporting families and individuals in need.
Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu expressed gratitude for the collaboration with UNICEF, which has been instrumental in the ministry’s reform efforts. She also acknowledged the ongoing significant contributions of the EU in developing and expanding social services through its budget support and technical assistance.
European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, highlighted the impact of their support, stating that “children and other vulnerable, marginalized, or discriminated groups in 14 municipalities will have access to enhanced social services.” He emphasized that as Albania moves towards EU membership, the focus should not only be on fulfilling economic criteria but also on creating an inclusive society that embraces all individuals.
