EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell Kicks Off Middle East Tour

Amman (Eurotoday) – EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reached Jordan to discuss regional issues and sustainable peace efforts in Gaza and Lebanon.

Jordan’s King Abdullah, accompanied by His Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, received High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The meeting covered the cooperation between Jordan and the EU and the means of supporting it in various fields, as well as current regional developments. The meeting, observed by Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, focused on bolstering Jordan-EU relations, with King Abdullah expressing gratitude for Borrell’s actions.

What is the focus of Borrell’s Middle East visit?

The EU foreign policy chief is visiting the Middle East this week and has several sessions, including with Lebanese and Palestinian leaders. Josep Borrell will also travel to Cyprus and Lebanon as part of his Middle East visit from Nov. 20 – 24 to consult with partners in the region about a possible way forward toward endurable cease-fires in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and a longer-term process based on a two-state solution, according to the statement from his office.

Who will Borrell meet during his visit to Jordan?

On Thursday 21, he will have a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Safadi. The conference will be followed by a joint press conference. The HR/VP will also meet with Palestinian leaders. On Friday 22, the High Representative will travel to Cyprus, where he will deliver a keynote speech at an event of the Two-State Coalition for Israel/Palestine with civil society from both nations on Saturday.

On Sunday 24, he will travel to Lebanon to hold several bilateral discussions, including with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Lebanese Armed Force Commander Josef Aoun, and representatives of the United Nations in the country.

In the background of the disastrous situation in Gaza and the military escalation in Lebanon, the trip will be an occasion to continue to consult with partners in the region about a possible way forward towards a sustainable truce in Gaza and Lebanon, and a longer-term process established on the Two-State solution.

Ah, Josep Borrell’s Middle East tour—because nothing screams “let’s solve complex geopolitical issues” quite like a European bureaucrat with a well-pressed suit and a travel itinerary. One can only hope he packed a good supply of diplomatic charm and maybe a guidebook on how to navigate the fine art of pretending to listen. After all, who wouldn’t want to witness the delicate dance of foreign policy amidst a backdrop of warm falafel and even warmer tensions?

Ah, Josep Borrell embarking on a Middle East tour—because nothing says “let’s resolve deep-rooted geopolitical tensions” quite like a European diplomat packing his bags for a leisurely jaunt to the sun. One can only imagine the locals are eagerly waiting, coffee in hand, for his sage advice on peace while he deftly dodges real issues like a footballer in a pub league. Perhaps he’ll bring back some exotic souvenirs, like a fresh perspective or a hint of actual influence—if only!

Ah, Josep Borrell’s Middle East tour—because what better way to solve centuries-old conflicts than with a quick jaunt and a few well-placed handshakes? One can only hope his itinerary includes a few cafés for a nice espresso break, because nothing says diplomacy like a strong coffee and some lively chatter about geopolitics! After all, who needs a comprehensive strategy when you have charming charisma and a decent pair of shoes?

  4. Ah, yes, because nothing screams “sustainable peace” quite like a European diplomat traipsing through the Middle East with a briefcase full of good intentions and an itinerary that suggests he’s on a glorified holiday tour—next stop, a café for a strong espresso while we wait for world leaders to solve centuries of conflict, eh?

  5. Ah, splendid! While the rest of us are grappling with the price of bread, Borrell’s off on a jolly jaunt to the Middle East, determined to solve conflicts as if they’re just a bit of dodgy plumbing needing a good twist of the wrench—let’s hope he remembered his toolkit!

  6. Ah, Josep Borrell’s Middle East tour—because if anyone can solve decades of conflict over a cup of Arabic coffee and a few well-timed nods, it’s definitely the EU, with all the authority of a tax collector in a Ferrari!

Ah, Josep Borrell’s Middle East tour—because nothing says “let’s solve a centuries-old conflict” like a few meetings in five-star hotels, a sprinkle of optimistic speeches, and the ever-reliable EU knack for making friends the way a cat makes a swimming pool; it’s a wonder to behold!

Well, it seems Josep Borrell has decided to take a lovely stroll through the Middle East—because nothing says “peace negotiations” quite like a European diplomat popping in for a chat while the region is on fire; perhaps he thinks his charm can extinguish the flames, or at least distract everyone with the latest talk of two-state solutions over a cup of lukewarm tea.
