EU Civil Protection Mechanism Deploys Two Aircraft to Combat Fires in Southern Albania

High temperatures have recently impacted Albania, leading to fire outbreaks in several regions, particularly in the Finiq area in the south.

A significant fire burned for five days in a challenging mountainous region between Malçan and Grazhdan, within the Municipality of Finiq.

After several days of efforts by Albanian Civil Emergencies, the fire was brought under control with the assistance of two planes from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

This activation of the EU’s emergency reserve involved two firefighting planes stationed in Greece, which helped to extinguish the blaze near the Greek border.

Last year, EU Civil Protection Mechanism aircraft were also essential in combating extensive fires in Dropull and Finiq.

Albania became a Participating State of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in November 2022, a system that has provided support in various situations since then.

The massive fires that struck the country last year necessitated the aid of the European Civil Emergency Mechanism.

This mechanism underpins the EU’s disaster risk management strategy.

Albania’s participation is seen as a significant advancement in enhancing regional collaboration for disaster management.

As a full member of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Albania can receive immediate support and offer assistance to other countries facing disasters, fostering a more robust and coordinated response to crises across Europe and beyond.

The EU Civil Protection Mechanism aims to fortify cooperation among EU nations and eight participating states (Iceland, Norway, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and recently Albania) for civil protection, enhancing prevention, preparedness, and response efforts to disasters.

So, while the rest of us are sweating it out, the EU’s got flying fire trucks ready to swoop in like a superhero squad. Who knew battling wildfires required a fleet of planes parked just next door? 🥴✈️

Oh, look at the EU swooping in with their fancy planes like superheroes, while we’re just here trying to figure out how to keep our BBQs from turning into bonfires. Maybe next time they can send a few flying piggy banks too, eh? 🐷💸

Just what we needed, a couple of planes to tame the flames while the locals probably could’ve doused it with a few buckets of water and a cheeky grin. 🌍✈️ Good to see EU stepping in—because who wouldn’t want to play firefighter on a sunny day in Albania, right? 😏

Typical, isn’t it? Just when you thought Albania was getting a handle on its summer vibes, the EU swoops in like a superhero with a couple of planes. 🚀✈️ Who needs a beach holiday when you’ve got aerial firefighting on the agenda?

Seems like the EU’s got its firefighting planes on speed dial now—who knew saving the world from blazes could be such a frequent flyer program? ✈️🔥 Must be nice to have the luxury of borrowing planes while the locals are just trying not to get roasted like a chestnut in a winter market! 😏

Funny how the EU sends planes for fires while we’re still waiting for that brunch proposal from Berlin to get off the ground. 🍳✈️ But hey, at least Albania gets a free air show while battling blazes! 😂

Oh, brilliant! Because when you think of tackling wildfires, who wouldn’t want to wait for a plane to shuffle over from Greece? Just what we need: a bit of aerial drama while the flames take their sweet time! 🔥✈️
