EU Chief: Ukraine War "Threatens Every Nation on the Planet"

An EU chief says that Europe facing an “existential threat.”

EU council president Antonio Costa said, “The war of aggression being waged against Ukraine by a permanent member of the Security Council is unacceptable and threatens the security of every nation on the planet.”

He was speaking at the summit at the end of the week between the EU and Mexico.

The Portuguese official said, “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of any country is a fundamental right enshrined in the United Nations Charter that must be respected.

“The European Union will support, to the very end, all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine: a peace that fully respects Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The European Union, he added, advocates for international law to be respected everywhere in the world, whether in Ukraine, the Middle East or Latin America.

“We,” he went on, “therefore call for a concerted effort to strengthen international law and multilateral institutions.

“This is not about self-interest – it is a question of survival.

“This is why we must work together to push for more representative and effective international governance.

“Today’s world is no longer what it was in 1945.

“Multilateral institutions must adapt to a more diverse and complex international landscape in order to tackle challenges that no single country, however powerful, can face alone.”

At the summit the leaders of the European Union and Mexico have, said the EU, “significantly deepened” their political and economic relations with two new, modernised agreements, stepping up their cooperation.

EC president Ursula von der Leyen said: “The EU and Mexico are committed to a close strategic partnership.”

She said the “modernised Agreements” thrashed out at the summit “set out our shared vision of the future and will deliver many benefits for both sides.”

The German official added, “We will boost trade and investment to support jobs and growth, and cooperate across a range of policy areas.

“Together we will shape a better future for our citizens and the planet, by finding common ground on upholding global institutions, driving clean growth, and promoting human rights and gender equality.”

Seems like every time they open their mouths, it’s like the sky is falling. Next thing you know, they’ll be selling umbrellas to everyone in Brussels just to keep us dry from all this doom and gloom. ☔️😂

Talk about overdramatic! I mean, who knew a war in Ukraine could threaten the entire planet? Next, they’ll say the sky is falling. 🌍🙄

Oh, lovely! Just what we needed – a reminder that the world is ending while EU officials sip their espresso and draft “modernized agreements.” Cheers to that, right? 😂🍷
