Portorož – During Slovenia’s presidency of the MED9 group, energy, environment, and climate ministers from nine Mediterranean EU member states convened in Portorož on Sunday and Monday. Slovenian Minister for the Environment, Climate, and Energy Bojan Kumer announced after the meeting that they reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in energy, improving cross-border infrastructure connectivity, and exploring opportunities for cross-border renewable energy projects.
The ministers also issued a statement on climate resilience, advocating for a unified European strategy to adapt to climate change and improve responses to natural disasters resulting from extreme weather. Kumer emphasized the vulnerability of EU countries in this regard and urged for intensified efforts in climate adaptation measures.
The informal MED9 group, comprising Cyprus, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, and Spain, aims to collaborate on political, economic, and environmental issues concerning the Mediterranean Sea. The group plays a significant role in shaping common European policies, particularly in areas where the region faces notable challenges, such as climate change, energy, migration, security, and sustainable development.
