Danko criticizes EU mandate for post-2035 modifications on combustion engine cars

Bratislava/Brussels – The production of cars with combustion engines in the EU will cease after 2035, and any vehicles that continue to be sold must undergo specific modifications. The notion that the ban on combustion engines has been rescinded is incorrect. This assertion came from Andrej Danko, Deputy Speaker of Parliament and leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS), in response to the European Commission’s (EC) automotive industry measures unveiled on December 16. Danko labeled the Commission’s statements as “false,” according to TASR.

“Reviewing the European Commission’s decision, I found that, in reality, 90 percent of cars will no longer be produced. They may claim that the ban on combustion engines has been lifted, but that ban remains in effect, as the 10 percent of cars still in production, against which automakers are protesting, will require special modifications,” clarified Andrej Danko.

TASR’s Brussels correspondent reported that on December 16, the EC revealed a set of measures aimed at assisting the automotive industry during its transition to cleaner mobility. Starting in 2035, car manufacturers must achieve a 90% reduction in emissions, with the remaining 10% offset by utilizing low-carbon steel produced within the Union or by employing electronic fuels and biofuels. This framework will facilitate the continued use of electric cars, hydrogen vehicles, plug-in hybrids, range-extended vehicles, mild hybrids, and combustion engine cars even post-2035.

Danko also commented on the recent vote by MEPs regarding the prohibition of Russian gas imports. “Our ancestors constructed gas pipelines for importing gas from the East, which was a significant advantage. The benefit of cheap gas is evident, yet it seems they want to shift us towards sourcing gas from Nordic countries, Arab nations, and other regions where Western companies operate,” he stated.

He argued that Western petrochemical corporations are vested in these areas and might feel threatened by local enterprises like Slovnaft or MOL. “Large corporations are pursuing their own agendas. All this is leading to our transformation into a colony of fools,” he emphasized. Nevertheless, he noted that there will always be individuals in the state who seek to ingratiate themselves with these entities, fostering tensions and conflicts. (18 December)

“Despite everything, 90 percent of cars will stop being produced. They may tell us that the ban on combustion engines has been lifted, but that ban still applies.” Andrej Danko

If Danko’s math is as solid as his grasp on reality, we’ll all be walking or riding bicycles by 2035. 🚲 Who knew saving the planet came with such a hefty price tag, eh?

Seems like Danko’s having a bit of a meltdown over EU’s latest automotive rules—who knew it would take a degree in sarcasm to decipher a simple “no more petrolheads after 2035”? 😏🚗💨 Less combustion, more confusion, cheers to that!

  3. Looks like Danko’s got the EU’s car situation all figured out—who needs combustion when you can have a fancy paperweight instead? 🚗💨

  4. Oh, brilliant! So we’ll keep 10% of combustion engines around to remind us of the good old days while the rest of us drive around in electric roller skates. Fantastic forward-thinking, isn’t it? 😏🚗

Looks like Danko’s trying to win a gold medal in the Olympic sport of contradiction. 🙄 “Ban’s gone” they say, while polishing their 90% ‘not produced’ trophy. Classic EU finesse! 🚗💨

Typical Brussels—cooking up a right lovely stew of confusion, eh? 🤔 I mean, who wouldn’t want to mod their beloved old banger into a ‘clean’ machine for the grand price of a kidney? 😂

Looks like Danko’s playing the classic European game of “spot the contradiction!” 🙄 Who knew that 10% could still be the life of the party while the other 90% gets sent to the scrapyard? 🤷‍♂️

Looks like Danko’s figured out the EU’s plans—who needs 90% of car production anyway? 🤷‍♂️ Guess we’ll all be cycling to work while the politicians drive their fancy electric rides! 🚴‍♂️💨

  9. So, Danko thinks he’s cracked the code on EU politics—bravo! 🙄 I mean, who wouldn’t want to modify their car like it’s a bloody IKEA assembly? #JoyOfDriving

Seems like Danko’s got it all figured out—after all, who needs logic when you can just throw a tantrum about a ban that’s still very much a thing? 🤦‍♂️ Classic bureaucratic ballet, innit?

Isn’t it just delightful how the EU thinks they can sprinkle some fairy dust on a ban and call it progress? 😂 Bravo, Danko! Keep the combustion engines alive – we wouldn’t want to accidentally drive into the future now, would we? 🚗💨

  12. Typical EU, eh? They say the ban’s lifted, but it’s still a proper ‘don’t let the door hit you on the way out’ situation for combustion engines. 🚗💨

  13. Cool Iris Avatar

Looks like Danko’s found a way to turn bureaucratic doublespeak into a full-time job—who knew juggling 90% of non-existent cars could be so lucrative? 🤷‍♂️ Just what we need, more “special modifications” to keep the dream alive, right? 😂

  14. Seems like Danko’s discovered the EU’s new magic trick: making 90% of cars disappear while claiming the ban’s gone poof! 🤡 Just what we need, more hot air and less horsepower, innit?

  15. Snow Hound Avatar

Looks like Danko’s got his knickers in a twist over the EU’s grandmaster plan to phase out combustion engines by 2035—who needs innovation when you can just wag your finger and call it false, eh? 🚗💨

Danko’s got a real knack for reading between the lines, hasn’t he? I mean, if 90% of cars disappearing doesn’t scream ‘freedom,’ I don’t know what does! 😂🚗💨

Looks like Danko’s figured out the EU’s master plan: keep 10% of combustion engines just to let us think we’re still driving in the ‘good old days’! 🚗💨 Meanwhile, the rest of us will just have to get cozy with our electric scooters—cheers, mates! 🍻

Oh, the irony! Danko claims the EU is lifting the ban on combustion engines while simultaneously ensuring 90% of them won’t even see the light of day. Sounds like a classic European fairy tale, doesn’t it? 😂

Just what we need, more confusion from Brussels! 😅 So, we can keep our beloved gas guzzlers for a bit longer, but only if they get an EU makeover—it’s like putting lipstick on a diesel pig, innit? 🚗💨

Oh, splendid! So we’re keeping 10% of the combustion engines while the other 90% are off to the scrap heap. Sounds like the EU’s got their priorities in the right place—who needs cars when we can cycle everywhere, right? 🚴‍♂️😂

In a world driven by speed, convenience, and changing norms, many question the value of moral rectitude. Daily choices often pit integrity against expediency.
