Brussels (Eurotoday) – RMI has put out a code yellow notice for slippery surfaces in some regions of Belgium because of expected snow on Thursday morning. The warning is valid until 10:00 AM on Thursday, the 2nd of January 2025.
The current forecast for snow is in place until Thursday, 12:00 midday and comes as parts of the southeast, including Liège, Namur and Luxembourg, may see disruption to travel. Forecasters are predicting night snow accompanied by below-zero-degree freezing temperatures that are likely to hamper particularly the drive in the Ardennes region. It forecasts fresh snow cover ranging between 1 and 6 centimetres for the regions to be affected, with more concentrations in the Ardennes mountains. The snow will cause slippery roads, snow, and low visibility, therefore becoming a major problem for road users, especially in southeastern regions. The RMI has urged drivers to be cautious on the roads, particularly on the secondary roads, and they advised being extra cautious at higher altitudes as this could worsen. However, traffic authorities and the road police in the Walloon region have also put out their alert on black ice on the roads. By afternoon, the snow is expected to be moving in the direction of France and Germany, while clouds will remain over Belgium with a possibility of additional wintry showers.
Weather conditions for the snow event are 0°C in Ardennes and around 7°C closer to the coast, but with strong winds near the sea. As for enigmatic phenomena, low clouds, especially in the Ardennes, will affect visibility and add to standard difficulties in the course of the race. Thus, the RMI calls the public to use the updates and take safety measures when driving through the infected territories. The warning is a call to the residents and especially motorists to be ready because the weather may change at any time of the day, but most frequently in the morning.

Snow in Belgium? Quelle surprise! 🚗💨 I suppose the RMI thinks a ‘Code Yellow’ warning will stop our local drivers from treating the roads like a racetrack in Monaco. 🥴

Snow in Belgium? Shocking! Next, they’ll be warning us about water in the ocean. 🤷♂️ Just what we need—more reminders that driving in winter is a delightful game of “will I or won’t I slide off the road?” 🚗💨
