“C’est donc gagné”: Emmanuel Macron se félicite pour la sauvegarde de la haute mer, mais il reste du pain sur la planche

Un rapport de l’Unesco de 2024 indique que la teneur en oxygène des océans diminue mondialement, et le réchauffement des océans s’accélère à un rythme sans précédent.

“L’océan est notre principal allié, où que nous vivions”, a déclaré Ursula von der Leyen, présidente de la Commission européenne. “Cependant, si nous le négligeons, l’océan se retournera contre nous”, a-t-elle ajouté, faisant référence aux “tempêtes plus violentes qui ravagent nos côtes”.

Emmanuel Macron et Ursula von der Leyen ont pris la parole lors de la troisième conférence des Nations unies sur les océans à Nice, rassemblant des délégations de plus de 120 pays, dont plus de 50 chefs d’Etat, pour tenter de revitaliser les océans en difficulté.

Le Traité sur la haute mer, ou Accord sur la biodiversité au-delà des juridictions nationales (BBNJ), établit des normes pour créer des aires marines protégées en eaux internationales. Il prendra effet uniquement après la ratification par au moins 60 pays.

Les partisans espèrent que cet accord contribuera significativement à protéger 30% des terres et mers d’ici 2030, objectif fixé lors de la COP15.

Avec l’engagement récent de quinze nouveaux pays, ajoutés à une cinquantaine de ratifications déjà déposées, la mise en œuvre du Traité sur la haute mer est imminente, a annoncé Emmanuel Macron lundi matin.

    Oh, magnifique! Qui aurait cru que l’océan avait besoin d’un sauveur? Peut-être qu’après avoir sauvé la haute mer, Macron pourra nous expliquer comment on fait flotter des accords sur des vagues de promesses! 🌊😂
