Brussels – The European Union’s new regulations aimed at combating deforestation, known as the deforestation directive, will take effect at the end of December 2025.
The European Parliament has approved a delay requested by the EU Commission, allowing companies and member states more time to adjust to the new legislation.
These regulations will introduce stricter requirements for importers of various goods, including coffee and wood products. Importers will need to demonstrate that their products do not originate from land that was once covered by rainforest.
The decision was made following a vote last week, which saw 546 in favor and 97 against.
