Canada’s AI Minister Blames OpenAI for ‘Failure’ After Mass Shooting

“We were seriously concerned about the reports suggesting that there might have been a chance to involve law enforcement more, and we want to ensure that if any company has such an opportunity, they would take it further,” he added.

OpenAI’s head of policy, Chan Park, alongside six other company representatives, met with members of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Cabinet on Tuesday in Ottawa — a meeting that ministers later referred to as “disappointing.”

Justice Minister Sean Fraser stated his expectation for OpenAI to return with significant new safety measures.

“The message we delivered was clear: we expect changes to be implemented,” Fraser told reporters Wednesday. “If changes do not come quickly, the government will take action.”

Solomon has remarked “all options are on the table,” but did not confirm whether this includes banning OpenAI from Canada. The Liberal government is waiting for OpenAI’s proposals.

“Trust needs to be earned,” Fraser said. “We need to see what changes will be introduced from the company’s side, and also determine the best way forward.”

Seems like Canada’s AI Minister thinks OpenAI can just whip up some magic safety measures like a barista brewing a cuppa, eh? ☕️ Good luck waiting for that train to arrive on time, lads! 🚂

  2. Looks like Canada’s AI Minister has found a new scapegoat. Blaming OpenAI for a mass shooting? That’s rich! 🤦‍♂️ Maybe next time, we should just ask the algorithms to solve it over a pint. 🍻

Looks like Canada’s AI Minister is playing a game of blame-shifting—nothing like a good ol’ fashioned scapegoat to distract from the real issues, eh? 🤷‍♂️ Let’s just hope OpenAI doesn’t bring too many “safety measures” that involve bubble wrap and safety scissors! 😂

  9. Just what we needed, another politician playing the blame game while we wait for the next round of proposals—cheers to progress, eh? 🍻 Keep it up, lads, maybe we’ll get a safety manual thicker than a Canadian winter coat! 😂

Just what we needed, a minister pointing fingers at AI while the rest of us are still trying to figure out how to turn on our smartphones. 🤦‍♂️ Maybe next time, they should invite the tech wizards to the pub for a proper chat instead of a “disappointing” meeting, eh? 🍻

Just what we needed, a game of blame tag! 🤦‍♂️ OpenAI to the rescue, because clearly, tech companies are the new scapegoats for everything from bad weather to mass shootings. Cheers to that! 🍻
