Seville – The Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, mentioned on Thursday that no assessment has been made yet regarding a potential new candidacy for the presidency of the Eurogroup.
Cuerpo withdrew his candidacy for the Eurogroup, which comprises the Economy and Finance ministers of the eurozone, at the beginning of July after realizing he did not have enough support. The position was ultimately awarded to Irish minister Paschal Donohoe, who resigned two days ago to take on a significant role at the World Bank.
While speaking to the media in Carmona (Seville), Cuerpo responded to inquiries about a possible re-run for the position, stating that it is “too early” and that the electoral process for the new presidency has not yet commenced.
He emphasized that the key focus should be on ensuring the Eurogroup remains a driving force for European policies, which he hopes will be a priority for the next presidency. (November 20)
