Washington (Eurotoday) – Soon-to-be-former U.S. President Joe Biden announced $2.5 billion in further security aid for Ukraine.
“At my direction, the United States will persist in working relentlessly to support Ukraine’s position in this fight over the remainder of my time in office,”
Biden stated.
In a statement, Biden expressed the new assistance would deliver Ukraine with
“an immediate influx of abilities that it continues to use to great impact on the battlefield and longer-term supplies of air defence, artillery, and other crucial weapons systems.”
Biden conveyed the Defense Department is in the procedure of supplying hundreds of thousands of artillery rounds, hundreds of armoured vehicles and thousands of rockets, “which will support Ukraine’s hand as it heads into the winter.”
The latest announcement contains $1.25 billion in military aid pulled from U.S. stockpiles and a $1.22 billion Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) scheme, the last USAI package of Biden’s time in post. Under USAI, military supplies are procured from the defence industry or allies, rather than pulled from American stocks, indicating it can take months or years to reach the battlefield.
How much aid has the US provided to Ukraine?
So far, the U.S. has allocated more than $62 billion in security aid, of which the December 2024 announced package, standing at $988 million, includes unmanned aerial vehicles, ammunition for HIMARS rocket launchers, and other artillery equipment. Alongside military aid, there are also massive amounts of humanitarian assistance provided through agencies like USAID to maintain the Ukrainian government and the necessary services and pay salaries.

Oh, look at that! Biden’s making a last-minute dash to the rescue with a $2.5 billion aid package for Ukraine—because nothing says “I’m still relevant” quite like throwing money at a problem just before the curtain drops. 💸🇺🇦

So, Biden’s decided to throw another $2.5 billion at Ukraine like it’s a round of drinks at the pub—wonder if that comes with a side of political grandstanding? 🍻 Meanwhile, I’m just waiting for the “thank you” cards to arrive from Kyiv!
