Affligem (Eurotoday): In Affligem, local group Affligem Windstil opposes plans for tall wind turbines near the E40 highway. The project was rejected by former Minister Zuhal Demir, with a public inquiry ongoing until January 22, 2025.
In Affligem, there are plans to build tall wind turbines near the E40 highway. The companies want to make an exit for construction vehicles, but a local group called Affligem Windstil is not happy about this. They are asking everyone in the area to share their concerns. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this, back in 2023, when the companies first asked for permission, many people complained, and the local government also said no to the project.
Will Engie and Eoly’s wind turbine plans in Affligem overcome local opposition?
The local government thinks the wind turbines are too big and too close to homes. In 2024, the companies Engie and Eoly tried to get permission again, but many people complained, and the former Minister of Environment, Zuhal Demir, said no in May. Then, in July, the companies decided to appeal that decision. The case is still going on, and it usually takes about 9 to 12 months to resolve.
It’s still unclear if the third permit application for wind turbines in Affligem will be approved, as the public inquiry is ongoing and will last until January 22, 2025. The local council is hopeful about building at the Bellekouter site, but first, a radar beacon that is important for air traffic needs to be removed. For more renewable energy, many local governments are interested in wind projects, but they must also listen to the concerns of the community during these inquiries.

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “green energy” quite like a community battle over whether your backyard view will be ruined by giant spinning blades. 🌪️ Just what we need—more public inquiries to rival our famous traffic jams near the E40! 😂

Oh brilliant, nothing says “let’s embrace renewable energy” quite like a community of locals frolicking in protest against a couple of massive wind turbines – because who needs clean air when you can have a picturesque view of, well, nothing? 😏🌬️
