Access to Aid and Hospital Operations Remain Limited in Gaza

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric briefed journalists in New York on Wednesday, stating that hostilities in parts of the Gaza Strip continue to cause casualties and disrupt humanitarian operations. On Tuesday, the UN and its partners planned eight humanitarian movements inside Gaza with Israeli authorities. However, only one was facilitated, with the rest hindered, refused, or canceled. Despite difficulties, UN teams retrieved over 200 pallets of medicine and five fuel tanker trucks at the Kerem Shalom/Kerem Abu Salem border post, and additional tents at the Kissufim crossing. Dujarric emphasized that every delivery to Gaza significantly impacts the situation.

Gaza’s health system is in extreme fragility, with not a single hospital fully functional. Of the Strip’s 36 hospitals, only 18 are partially operational. On Monday, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) facilitated the medical evacuation of 33 Palestinians needing intensive care, along with over 100 accompanying individuals. Despite these efforts, more than 16,500 patients still require medical care outside Gaza. WHO continues to advocate for safe access to evacuation routes, particularly to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and calls for expedited medical evacuation convoys at crossing points.

UN agencies strive to maintain essential civilian services. The United Nations agency aiding Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) provides learning activities for displaced children in Gaza. As of Sunday, UNRWA operated nearly 350 temporary learning spaces in 64 shelters, offering in-person education to over 47,000 children. Humanitarians also provide other essential support.

Dujarric stated that the United Nations and its partners are ready to expand operations if restrictions ease. He called for unhindered humanitarian access so teams can reach everyone in need, emphasizing that much more can be done if restrictions on essential items and humanitarian groups are lifted.

Oh, lovely to see the UN having a splendid time playing humanitarian hopscotch in Gaza – one delivery out of eight, what a score! 🎉 Guess the hospitals are on a very exclusive VIP list, and unfortunately, they forgot to send out the invites. 🏥💔

  2. Funny how they’re still trying to deliver aid while the hospitals are about as functional as a broken espresso machine in a Roman café. 🍵 But hey, at least the kids have some temporary classrooms—because who needs proper healthcare, right? 😂

Oh, lovely! Just a typical day in Gaza—where getting aid is as easy as finding a parking spot in central London. 🤦‍♂️ Maybe they should consider a new slogan: “Help us help you, but only if it’s not too much trouble.”

  4. Isn’t it just charming how the UN’s idea of progress is delivering a mere 200 pallets of medicine while 16,500 patients are still left hanging? Quite the humanitarian marathon, isn’t it? 🙄

Seems like a classic case of “let’s give them a taste of aid but keep the buffet closed,” eh? 🤷‍♂️ It’s like ordering a fancy meal and just getting the appetizer—what a Michelin-starred disaster! 🍽️

Oh, fantastic news from Gaza! A real miracle that 1 out of 8 aid missions actually made it through—what a well-oiled machine we’ve got here! 🤔

Oh, brilliant! Just what the region needs – a buffet of humanitarian aid with a side of “Sorry, we’re closed!” 🍽️ It’s almost like a game of musical chairs, but with hospitals and medicine instead. 🏥💔

Just what we needed, a classic case of humanitarian ‘too little, too late’—one could say it’s the world’s most elaborate game of hide and seek. 🙄 But hey, at least the UN’s got their 200 pallets of medicine; that should solve everything, right? 🥴

  10. Looks like “limited access” is the new buzzword for a humanitarian disaster—who knew? 🤷‍♂️ Meanwhile, I suppose those 200 pallets of medicine are just the tip of the iceberg in this grand game of “who can turn a blind eye faster.”

Seems like the humanitarian aid is on a “limited time offer” in Gaza – only one out of eight deliveries, just like my luck with lottery tickets! 😂 Who knew operating hospitals was so complicated, right?

Limited access to aid in Gaza? Shocking! Who would’ve thought a conflict zone wouldn’t roll out the red carpet for humanitarian effort? 🤷‍♂️

Seems like Gaza’s healthcare is on a permanent coffee break while everyone’s waiting for a miracle, eh? Just a standard Tuesday in the land of “let’s make it difficult to help.” 😂

Seems like the UN’s humanitarian efforts are about as effective as a chocolate teapot. 🫖 I guess “limited access” is just a fancy way of saying they’re playing a game of hide and seek with aid. 🤷‍♂️

Oh, look, a humanitarian crisis that makes a snail race seem speedy! Who needs hospitals when you’ve got “partially operational” ones—perfect for a game of medical roulette! 😏

However, there is “markedly less enthusiasm and consensus” on subjects of long-term support such as sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine after the war and expanding the EU eastwards.
