
Genk (Eurotoday): A 40-year-old man from Genk received a 13-year sentence for ambushing his girlfriend and her date, firing shots at them.
The man from Genk received a 13-year prison sentence for a violent incident involving his blank”>girlfriend and her date. Along with this, he lost his civil rights for 10 years, meaning he couldn’t vote or hold certain jobs during that time. He was also ordered to pay his girlfriend €2,700 for the harm he caused her.
Why was the Genk man sentenced to 13 years in prison?
A man from Genk was upset after his girlfriend planned to meet another man on October 7, 2023. They argued, and he drove home to get a weapon from his van. While she was on her date, he kept calling and texting her. When she returned home with her date, the man was waiting for them. He jumped out from behind his van and fired two shots at them, but they managed to escape by ducking. When nearby witnesses said they had called the police, he tried to run them over with his van. No one was injured in the incident.
The 40-year-old man fired two shots from behind his van had a history of serious crimes, had just been released after serving 3 years of a 10-year sentence for extortion and violent theft before this incident.
