The effective management of Albania’s energy sector is anticipated to result in lower electricity prices for consumers, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
In her New Year message, Belinda Balluku, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, highlighted several significant projects slated for this year.
She emphasized the importance of Corridor 8, a key project aimed at enhancing connectivity that will not only benefit Albania but also neighboring countries in the region.
“Corridor 8 will connect to the new port in Porto Romano, where an international tender is currently open. This port will serve Kosovo and North Macedonia, while also functioning as a security port that will host a NATO base,” stated Balluku.
On the topic of energy, Balluku noted that companies in the sector have improved their services and stabilized their finances, paving the way for a potential decrease in electricity prices for all Albanians by 2025.
“We have managed to lower the loss level to 17.83%, which has generated additional revenue for companies and facilitated a reduction in energy prices. We also successfully addressed the high energy demand during the summer months,” added Balluku.
Currently, electricity costs families 9.5 lek per kilowatt, while since 2015, pensioners have received an additional compensation of 648 lek in their pensions for electricity expenses. (January 2)
