The 27-year-old has recently emphasized that adopting a strategy similar to Donald Trump’s—melding a tough stance on immigration with assertive rhetoric—might resonate with French voters. Trump’s ability to attract support from Black, Latino, and female voters, traditionally aligned with Democrats, has showcased the potential for such approaches in other political landscapes.
“The Muslim vote, in particular, presents a unique opportunity, as this demographic often holds more conservative values and finds itself clashing with the progressive sexual politics of the left,” Sarkozy commented in an article for a Belgian news outlet, which recently made him its leading columnist.
This Saturday marks a turning point for Sarkozy as he steps further into the political spotlight. He is set to be the guest of honor at the Paris Christmas celebration hosted by the Jeunes Républicains, the youth wing of his father’s party, Les Républicains. The event has been heavily publicized, underscoring his emerging presence in the conservative political scene.
While Sarkozy has drawn the attention of the younger, intellectual circles on the right, he still faces the challenge of convincing the party’s senior members of his leadership potential.
Behind closed doors, Sarkozy has been actively networking with prominent figures on the French right, including Bruno Retailleau, the outgoing interior minister. These moves signal his focus on building a foundation for a future political career, according to several political insiders who spoke with POLITICO.
In fact, Sarkozy recently met with Retailleau at the interior ministry, where he was given a private tour of the residence he once called home during his childhood, when his father served as France’s interior minister. This meeting underscores his efforts to reconnect with the party’s legacy while positioning himself for a possible political trajectory.
