48 Arrested in Georgia During Crackdown on Pro-EU Protests

Former Soviet republic Georgia continues to remain heavily influenced by Russia, with pro-Russian forces remaining a significant and powerful influence in the country.

On the evening of November 29, a fresh wave of protests erupted, leading to the arrest of over 100 individuals. According to a statement from Georgia’s interior ministry, 42 law enforcement personnel were injured during the unrest.

The BBC has reported that, since the resurgence of protests—now ongoing for over a week—more than 300 individuals have been detained, even before the arrests on Friday.

Countries like Ukraine, Latvia, and Lithuania have imposed sanctions on Georgian officials, condemning the Georgian ruling party’s violent response to pro-democracy demonstrations.
