French health authorities issued a warning on Friday about over 40,000 noncompliant condoms sold online in recent months, advising users of these products to undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections.
The items were deemed “likely to pose serious risks to the health and safety of users,” such as unwanted pregnancies and STIs, according to France’s consumer-fraud watchdog, the DGCCRF, and its general directorate for health, or DGS. They issued the warning on Friday, instructing platforms to “immediately remove the ads,” leading to the removal of 36 listings. Several websites have pledged to review their screening processes.
The statement revealed that investigators discovered about 30 lines of condoms missing the EU’s required CE safety marking and third-party conformity checks, with most being sold by Asian vendors through major online marketplaces.
