UN Affirms Peacekeepers’ Freedom of Movement in Lebanon

UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric provided updates on UNIFIL’s activities and humanitarian support for those displaced by Israeli-Hezbollah hostilities. He noted peacekeepers observed 143 projectile trajectories on Thursday, 119 from Israel and the rest from Hezbollah, with no Lebanese airspace violations. On Wednesday, they saw 364 launches, 330 from Israel and 34 from Hezbollah, plus 38 airspace violations.

Peacekeepers are witnessing extensive Israeli ground activities. A UNIFIL convoy was blocked by two Israeli tanks in Tiri on Wednesday; one tank aimed at a UNIFIL vehicle, causing the convoy to halt and reverse before taking an alternate route.

Dujarric emphasized peacekeepers’ need for unrestricted movement, acting on behalf of the Security Council.

UN Deputy Special Coordinator Imran Riza and UNIFIL head Major General Diodato Abagnara met Lebanese leaders to reaffirm commitment to full implementation of Resolution 1701, aimed at stability in south Lebanon.

UNIFIL facilitated nine humanitarian missions on Wednesday. UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher announced an additional $12 million from CERF for displaced persons, facilitating healthcare, protection from gender-based violence, and addressing food insecurity.

Nearly 50,000 people returned to their homes in Nabatieh and South Governorates since the ceasefire, but more than 106,000 remain in collective sites, with many unable to return due to insecurity, destruction, and limited services.

Just what we needed, the UN giving peacekeepers a free pass to stroll through a war zone like it’s a Sunday market. 🥖 I suppose the only thing missing is a nice cup of coffee while they watch the fireworks! 💥

Seems like the UN is playing a game of “Red Light, Green Light” with peacekeeping—only this time, the tanks are the ones calling the shots. 🚦🤷‍♂️ Good luck keeping the peace while dodging artillery, lads!

  6. Aah, how lovely to see peacekeepers taking a scenic detour while Israeli tanks play roadblock – must be a new tourist attraction! 🚧 Just what we need, more “freedom of movement” for our dear UN friends, while everyone else just moves to the nearest bunker. 😏

Oh, how generous of the UN, letting peacekeepers roam free like a bunch of tourists in Paris! 🍷 Just what we need—more people observing chaos while the world spins around them! 😂

Another day, another UN statement reminding us that peacekeepers are basically on a never-ending field trip in Lebanon—how nice for them! 🎉 Let’s just hope those tanks don’t start charging for entry! 😏

Oh, fantastic news! Because nothing screams “we’re on top of things” quite like peacekeepers navigating a game of chicken with tanks in Lebanon. Bravo, UN, keep those humanitarian missions coming while the world watches the chaos unfold! 😏

Oh, splendid! Nothing says “peacekeeping” quite like a UN convoy being outmaneuvered by tanks—who knew the real job was dodging heavy artillery? 🤷‍♂️
