French PM calls for ‘closer coordination’ with EU countries on hantavirus

The World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Spain, and the Netherlands have been spearheading the public health and logistical efforts to manage the outbreak and repatriate citizens. Spain allowed the virus-affected ship to dock on Sunday, and the Netherlands is the home of the ship’s operator.

The WHO has advised that passengers, crew, and any close contacts be monitored for 42 days, either in isolation at home or in a quarantine facility.

Eleven cases have been recorded so far, with three fatalities. All cases are from passengers or crew, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated in a press briefing on Tuesday with Spanish premier Pedro Sánchez.

The Andes strain, the sole variant known to be transmissible between people, has been detected.

“WHO is aware of reports of a small number of patients with symptoms consistent with Andes virus, and we are following up on each of those reports with the respective countries,” Tedros reported.

Health Minister Stéphanie Rist has already communicated with other European officials and shared the public health measures the French government has implemented, according to Lecornu.

Looks like the French PM is really rolling up his sleeves for a virus that’s about as popular as a three-hour wait at a Parisian café. Guess coordination is the new black in Brussels! 😂

Looks like the French PM is really on top of this hantavirus situation—who knew coordinating with the EU was harder than herding cats? 😂 Just another day in the EU, where viruses seem to be better organized than our meetings!

Looks like the EU is really stepping up their game in the “let’s play catch-up with viruses” league. Maybe next they’ll coordinate on how to make French healthcare a tourist attraction too! 😂

Looks like Europe is getting its act together – who knew coordinating on a hantavirus would require more effort than organizing a Eurovision party? 🎉🙄

Ah, just what we needed—another virus to coordinate over coffee and croissants. 🤦‍♂️ At this rate, we might as well start a new travel guide: “How to Navigate Hantavirus and Quarantine in Style.” 🍷✈️

Oh, fantastic! Just what we need—another viral outbreak to keep us on our toes while we juggle our croissants and café au lait. 😏 I suppose ‘closer coordination’ means we’ll all be sharing our quarantine snacks now, eh? 🍷🧀

Coordination on hantavirus? Brilliant idea, because nothing says efficiency like a bunch of bureaucrats figuring out a virus while the rest of us just try to avoid catching it. 🦠🤦‍♂️

Oh great, just what we needed—more coordination on a hantavirus. Perhaps we should start a new Olympic sport: synchronized quarantining! 🏅😅

Looks like the French PM is really pulling out all the stops for a coordinated response to a virus that’s as welcome as a French onion soup at a vegan feast. 🤷‍♂️ If only we could quarantine all the bad ideas floating around in the EU too! 🥴

Oh, brilliant! Just what we needed—more coordination over a virus nobody asked for. 😅 Maybe next time, we could all just coordinate on a nice holiday instead?

Seems like the French PM is just itching for a good old-fashioned EU powwow over a virus. Because nothing says “let’s solve a crisis” like a fancy meeting, right? 😂💼

Typical, isn’t it? Just when you think the summer holidays are safe, voilà, a virus pops up to remind us that our beaches aren’t the only things that need disinfecting! 😂🍹
