President of the EIB: We see great potential for further investments in Slovenia

Ljubljana – At the European Investment Bank (EIB), they see great potential for further investments in Slovenia, said the bank’s president Nadia Calvino after meeting with Slovenian Finance Minister Klemen Boštjančič. The range of Slovenian projects under consideration is extensive and includes areas such as transport and energy infrastructure and support for businesses, she emphasized.

“Slovenia has a considerable number of projects under consideration that go beyond transport and energy infrastructure and include support for thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and affordable housing,” said Calvino.

In discussion with Boštjančič, they highlighted the importance of focusing on climate action, energy independence, digitalization, regional development, capital market development, and affordable housing.

Calvino’s visit confirms the strong partnership between the EIB and Slovenia, Minister Boštjančič is convinced.

Cooperation with the EIB has enabled Slovenian institutions to carry out projects that, according to the minister, would not have been possible without the financial and technical resources of the group, such as in the field of transport infrastructure modernization. EIB funds were also indispensable for the development of energy infrastructure, he said.

Boštjančič and Calvino also touched on the project of the second block of the Krško nuclear power plant Jek 2, the minister confirmed. “But at a rather high level, because, as you know, the project is in a certain phase. So we are certainly not yet discussing any concrete numbers, but we did discuss the experiences we have in talks with other potential investors,” he said.

For Calvino, who took over the leadership of the EIB at the beginning of this year, this is her first visit to Slovenia. The visit is part of the EIB president’s tour of EU member states. (7 November)
