Iranian Foreign Minister Visits Pakistan for Peace Talks

Araghchi mentioned in a previous post that he plans to visit Muscat, Oman, and Moscow to discuss regional developments.

Pakistan has played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington, which have been at war since late February after the U.S., alongside Israel, launched a military operation against Iran. A provisional ceasefire was reached between the U.S. and Iran, with Pakistan’s mediation, in early April.

Both nations have been asserting control over the strategic Strait of Hormuz, with U.S. President Donald Trump announcing a blockade of the passage. On Wednesday, Iran’s semi-official state news agency reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized two foreign vessels navigating the strait.

U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Pakistan’s capital for peace talks on Saturday. U.S. Vice President JD Vance will not attend but remains “on standby” to join the discussions, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Earlier this month, Vance was involved in peace negotiations with Iranian officials in Islamabad alongside Witkoff and Kushner.

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that there would be no direct bilateral negotiations. Instead, Iran’s viewpoints would be communicated to Pakistan, he noted.

Oh, nothing says “peace talks” like a good ol’ game of telephone through a mediator. 🍵 Who needs direct negotiations when you can just pass notes like schoolkids? 😂

  7. Just what we needed, more “peace talks” from the diplomats who couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag, eh? 😂 I guess the Strait of Hormuz is the new hot spot for international chit-chat!
