Close Guidance on Lutheran Identity
This workshop illustrated the LWF’s dedication to enriching Lutheran identity through collective theological reflection. Rev. Dr Songram Basumatary, from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, emphasized unity in their shared confession and salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Rev. Dr Joshuva Peter, Executive Secretary of the United Evangelical Lutheran Churches in India (UELCI), remarked on the liberating power of love that frees individuals to serve others. The core Lutheran principles of freedom, love, and service gained renewed meaning in Kathmandu and opposed the prevalent societal issues of discrimination and injustice.
Participants also considered the evolving nature of Lutheran identity, examining how a unified Lutheran tradition is represented through language, culture, worship, spirituality, service, and public witness diversity.
