Trump Calls UK’s Chagos Islands Agreement ‘Great Stupidity’

The U.S. president criticized the United Kingdom’s plan to transfer the Island of Diego Garcia to Mauritius, expressing concerns over the impact on U.S. military interests and perceived weakness in the face of China and Russia, as mentioned in a post on Truth Social.

He asserted that handing over such strategic land reflects poorly on Britain’s resolve and aligns with his own previous ambitions to acquire Greenland, despite opposition from NATO allies.

The agreement involves shifting island sovereignty to Mauritius, which has long contested Britain’s claims over the Chagos Archipelago since its 1968 independence. However, the U.S. and U.K. military presence at Diego Garcia is secured for 99 years.

In discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump conveyed U.S. willingness to support the U.K.’s decision. Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio endorsed the agreement upon its signing in May 2025.

Just what we need, a masterclass in geopolitics from the man who wanted to buy Greenland! 🤦‍♂️ But hey, who doesn’t love a bit of territorial musical chairs, right? 🎶

  2. Typical Brit move, innit? Handing over prime real estate while the rest of us are still figuring out how to park our cars without a ‘clamp’ – classic! 😂

  3. Oh, splendid move there, lads! Handing over strategic islands while worrying about the kettle boiling—classic British diplomacy! 🤦‍♂️

Typical, innit? Just when you think the UK’s got its act together, they hand over a prime slice of real estate like it’s a dodgy kebab at 2 AM. 🍔💤

Oh, splendid! Nothing like a bit of geopolitical musical chairs to keep the world on its toes. Who needs stability when you can just pass around islands like last season’s fashion? 😏🌍

  6. Oh, brilliant move, handing over a strategic island to Mauritius—what’s next, giving them our tea and crumpets as well? 😏 Must be a new form of diplomacy: “Let’s see how quickly we can wave the white flag!”

Blimey, looks like the UK’s got a new strategic policy: give away islands while the Yanks throw a tantrum! 🤦‍♂️ Next, we’ll be auctioning off the London Eye just to keep the peace, innit?

Oh, brilliant move, handing over a strategic island while trying to convince everyone it’s a masterstroke. Next, they’ll be offering up tea and crumpets to the Russians too! 😂🇬🇧

  9. Oh brilliant, handing over Diego Garcia to Mauritius – because who needs military bases when you can have a nice vacation spot instead? 🏖️🇬🇧

Seems like the U.K. is really going for that “best friend” vibe with Mauritius while Trump’s busy dreaming of real estate deals. Who needs military bases when you can have a nice cup of tea on the beach, right? 😂🍵

  11. Oh, brilliant move, handing over Diego Garcia like it’s a spare set of keys! I suppose next, they’ll be auctioning off the Thames to the highest bidder. 😂

So, handing over Diego Garcia is just the British way of saying, “Here, have a piece of our empire… just don’t ask for the tea!” ☕️😂
