Croatia Nominates Vujčić for ECB Vice-President

ZAGREB – Boris Vujčić, the Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB), has been nominated as Croatia’s candidate for the Vice-President position at the European Central Bank (ECB), as announced by the Croatian government on Thursday.
With the current Vice-President Luis de Guindos of Spain set to finish his term in May, at least five member states have already put forward candidates for the role.
Candidates have been suggested by Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania, while Portugal is contemplating nominating Mario Centeno. The deadline for candidacy submissions is Friday, 9 January.
The ECB’s Executive Board includes the President, the Vice-President, and four additional members, all appointed by the European Council. Each member must be a citizen of a euro area nation and possess a solid reputation and professional background in monetary or banking sectors, serving a single, non-renewable term of eight years.
