Vienna (APA) – For the third consecutive year, fuel prices in Austria have decreased on an annual average. According to the Verkehrsclub Österreich (VCÖ) fuel price report for this year, Austria stands in the middle of the EU ranking, with diesel priced at 1.54 euros per liter and Eurosuper at 1.52 euros per liter. Denmark recorded the highest fuel prices, while drivers in Bulgaria and Malta enjoyed significantly lower rates.
This year, motorists in Austria paid 1.52 euros for Eurosuper, which is 5 cents less per liter than last year. The price of diesel also fell by 6 cents, bringing it to 1.54 euros. In contrast, Danish drivers faced higher costs, with Eurosuper priced at 1.96 euros per liter. Other countries with higher prices include the Netherlands (1.92 euros), Greece (1.76 euros), and both Germany and Ireland (1.73 euros). Diesel prices in Denmark reached 1.76 euros per liter, while Ireland’s was 1.71 euros. The Netherlands (1.69 euros), Belgium (1.66 euros), and Italy (1.65 euros) also saw significantly higher fuel prices than Austria.
Low prices
In contrast, motorists in Bulgaria, Malta, and Cyprus benefited from lower prices. A liter of Eurosuper cost 1.24 euros in Bulgaria, while Malta and Cyprus had similar prices. For diesel, Malta led with a price of 1.21 euros per liter, followed closely by Bulgaria at 1.24 euros.
The VCÖ also suggested ways to lower fuel expenses in Austria: by modifying driving habits to be more cautious and consistent, motorists can potentially reduce fuel consumption—and consequently costs—by 15 to 20 percent. (23.12.2025)
