The Republic of Moldova’s European Journey Bolstered by Romania’s Support

Chișinău – Romanian Foreign Minister, Oana Ţoiu, affirmed Romania’s strong backing for the Republic of Moldova’s European integration through both political and diplomatic means within the EU and tangible assistance for Chișinău’s institutions.

She noted that the Republic of Moldova’s achievements in 2025, including the conducting of free elections and the implementation of reforms essential for European integration, are acknowledged in Brussels by the European Commission.

Additionally, Oana Ţoiu pointed out that Romania and Moldova are central to the EU’s focus, owing to their pro-European commitment and the resilience shown by their citizens and institutions against external threats and interference. She reiterated Bucharest’s role as a powerful advocate for accelerating Moldova’s European journey.

Meanwhile, Moldova’s Foreign Minister, Mihai Popşoi, declared Romania as “by far the closest state” and the primary supporter of Moldova’s European integration efforts. He valued Romania’s ongoing and altruistic support, highlighting its contribution to enhancing Moldova’s democracy, security, and resilience.

Mihai Popşoi remarked that Romania’s assistance is evident both at the institutional level and in the everyday lives of citizens, reaffirming Chișinău’s commitment to pursue necessary reforms for European integration. The two ministers agreed to maintain strong cooperation in the future to promote Moldova’s European objectives. (22.12.2025)
