Brussels – The EU Commission has approved Sweden’s social climate plan aimed at assisting households impacted by escalating transport expenses.
“Sweden is setting a pioneering example with its new social climate plan, which addresses transport challenges in rural regions. This is fantastic news for those looking to transition to electric transportation,” stated Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra in a press release.
The initiative offers support of up to 1,300 kronor monthly for three years to households purchasing or leasing new or used electric vehicles.
The Commission’s approval allows Sweden to request an initial payment from the EU’s Social Climate Fund in the first half of 2026.
This fund was established as part of the EU’s “Green Deal” to assist households and regions facing increased costs due to the transition towards a greener economy.
