Young Driver Crashes BMW in Waasmunster During Overtake Maneuver

Waasmunster (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – A young driver crashed his BMW on Sousbeekstraat, Waasmunster, Saturday afternoon, Dec6, 2025, while overtaking at high speed. Witnesses reported reckless driving; he escaped unharmed, but the vehicle was wrecked.

As GVA News reported, a young driver crashed his BMW on Saturday afternoon, Dec 6, 2025, on Sousbeekstraat in Waasmunster, in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. The accident happened while he was trying to overtake another vehicle.

Witnesses said the car was moving at a high speed. The BMW went off the road and hit a meadow fence and a hedge. The impact caused heavy damage to the car. Emergency services were called to the scene immediately.

What happened when a young driver crashed his BMW during overtaking?

The fire department arrived quickly, but the driver had already managed to get out of the car on his own. He was not injured. Witnesses said he was driving too fast, but the driver denied this. Authorities have not yet announced whether any fines or other actions will be taken.

A recent case occurred on July 24, 2025, in Papignies (town of Lessines). On the road Route des Régions (RN56), one driver overtook another car and collided almost head‑on with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. One driver was seriously injured and had to be extricated from his car before being taken to the hospital; the other driver walked away unharmed.

Nationwide data also show that such accidents remain a concern. In 2024, there were 35,916 traffic accidents in Belgium and a total of 470 fatalities from road crashes, although overall road deaths decreased compared to previous years.
