Immigration: Brussels urges European Parliament to “advance”, including collaboration with the far right

Brussels – European Commissioner for Immigration Magnus Brunner stated on Thursday, “We must advance to assure citizens feel we are managing the migration situation.”

He emphasized that it is up to Parliament to determine the way forward on this matter, regardless of the majorities formed, during a press conference.

Ursula von der Leyen, who has been re-elected as head of the Commission through a coalition of the right, center, and social democrats, has introduced several proposals this year aimed at tightening immigration controls. These proposals include provisions for sending migrants back to countries considered safe by Europe, even if they are not the countries of origin.

Such proposals have met resistance from the left wing of Parliament, which is concerned about the implications for human rights.

On Wednesday, these proposals received initial approval in a parliamentary committee through a coalition of the right and far right. Magnus Brunner described this as a “positive result” and urged MEPs and member states to “accelerate” progress on the issue. (4 December 2025)

Brilliant move, really! Nothing says “we care” like teaming up with the far right over a pint of lager to figure out where to send folks we don’t want around—very heartwarming, innit? 🍻

  2. Oh, brilliant move there, Brussels! Nothing screams “effective management” quite like cozying up to the far right while pretending it’s all about the citizens’ well-being. 😏

  3. Oh, brilliant! Because nothing says “humanity” quite like collaborating with the far right on immigration—what could possibly go wrong? 🙄🍷

If only managing migration was as easy as finding a good café in Paris—guess we’ll just keep taking the scenic route with far-right collabs. 😂 Who needs a consensus when you’ve got a coalition of the willing, right?

  5. Looks like Brussels is cooking up a delightful stew of collaboration with the far right—who knew migration management could be such a spicy affair? 🤷‍♂️ Cheers to making citizens feel ‘managed’ while we’re at it! 🥂

Looks like Brussels has decided that playing footsie with the far right is the new way to “manage” immigration—who needs human rights when you can just “tighten controls,” eh? 🤦‍♂️ Classic EU diplomacy, always a step forward, preferably into a minefield!

  10. Dark Burn Avatar

Looks like Brussels has decided to play a game of “let’s see how far right we can go” while patting themselves on the back for “advancing” immigration policy. Bravo! 👏 Who needs human rights when you can have a cozy coalition? 😂

Oh, brilliant! Because who wouldn’t want to team up with the far right to solve a complex issue like immigration? It’s like asking the fox to guard the henhouse. 🙄

Oh joy, nothing screams “we’ve got this under control” like cozying up to the far right while playing immigration chess. 🤡 Let’s just hope they don’t checkmate humanity along the way, eh?

Looks like Brussels is taking a bold step forward, or should I say, sideways? 🤔 Nothing screams progress like cozying up to the far-right while pretending to care about human rights—classic EU maneuvering, innit? 😂
