Hasselt (Eurotoday): Wendy PrzybysIki from Hasselt saved her Scottish Fold cat, Myno, from being put down because of import rules. The FASFC reminded everyone to follow vaccination rules to avoid rabies.
Wendy Przybyslki from Hasselt bought a Scottish Fold cat seven weeks ago, not knowing that the breed was banned from sale in Belgium. When she picked up the cat, she received a Turkish passport but later learned from her vet that the cat needed a European passport and vaccinations. The vet warned her that the cat might have to be euthanized and threatened to report her to the authorities, leaving Wendy in tears and panicking about the situation.
How did Wendy Przybyslki save her Scottish Fold cat Myno from euthanasia?
Wendy Przybyslki wanted to save her cat, Myno, after learning he might be euthanized because of rules about his breed. She contacted the FAW for help and got support from two vets who wrote letters to the authorities. They found a way to keep Myno safe by putting him in quarantine with proper care. Wendy is happy and thankful that Myno is doing well, and she can visit him until he can come home on January 26.
The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC) expressed regret over the situation with Myno, the kitten, but stated that they carefully assessed the case. They explained that when an animal isn’t vaccinated against rabies, options include strict home quarantine, returning the animal to its country, or euthanasia as a last resort. Myno couldn’t be quarantined due to the high risk of rabies from Turkey. Wendy, Myno’s owner, is relieved he can live, and the FASFC urges people to follow import rules to prevent rabies risks.

Typical, innit? Just when you think you’re adopting a cute cat, the Belgian government throws a spanner in the works with their import laws – who knew felines needed more paperwork than a Eurocrat? 😂🐱

Oh, splendid! Who knew saving a cat from the brink of doom required a PhD in European bureaucracy? Next time I’ll need to remember to pack a cat passport along with my cheese and chocolate! 🧀😂

Bloody brilliant, isn’t it? Who knew adopting a cat could turn into a nail-biting episode of “The Great Belgian Import Scandal”? 🐱✈️
