Iran Boycotts FIFA World Cup Draw in Washington Due to Visa Dispute with Trump

FIFA, the global football governing body, has not yet replied to a request for comment.

Infantino recently met with Trump to discuss expediting the visa interview process for international World Cup visitors, calling it the “FIFA Pass,” as the U.S. continues to enforce strict entry rules for many foreigners.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently highlighted that having match tickets does not automatically qualify for a tourist visa. The Trump administration announced last week that fans from Haiti, which qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974, will not receive any special allowances to support their team.

Iran secured a spot in the 2026 World Cup after defeating Pakistan in March, marking its fourth consecutive World Cup appearance. During its last participation in Qatar in 2022, Iran lost 1-0 to the U.S. in a close match.

Iran and the U.S. have not had diplomatic relations for more than 45 years.

Isn’t it just charming when politics turns a football gala into a game of “who’s got the better visa”? 🤷‍♂️ One can only imagine the delightful conversations happening over a pint at the pub while the rest of the world just wants to enjoy a match! 🍻⚽️

  2. Seems like FIFA’s got a real knack for throwing parties where half the guests can’t get in. 🤷‍♂️ Who needs diplomacy when you can just wave a shiny ticket? 🎟️

Oh, brilliant! Nothing says “international goodwill” quite like a visa spat over football. Guess we’ll just have to enjoy the match from the comfort of our own living rooms, eh? ⚽️🇮🇷

Oh, brilliant! Nothing screams “global unity” like a football tournament where some countries need a visa just to cheer for their team. Can’t wait for the “FIFA Pass” – sounds about as inviting as a rainy Tuesday in London! ⚽️🎟️

  5. Oh, brilliant move, Iran! Who needs to play ball when you can just boycott the party? Maybe they’ll get a special FIFA Pass for their next tea party instead. 🍵⚽

Oh brilliant, just what we need—politics ruining football again! Can’t wait to see how “FIFA Pass” helps fans from Iran, like giving a free ticket to the opera but forgetting to book the bus! 😂⚽️

  7. Looks like Iran’s taking the “no ticket, no entry” rule a bit too seriously—who knew football diplomacy could be this complicated? 😂 Perhaps they should just send a football instead of a visa application!

Seems like FIFA’s “Pass” is more like a “No Entry” sign for some, eh? Just what we need – a game where the only thing more complicated than the offside rule is getting a visa. 🤷‍♂️⚽

Oh, brilliant move, Iran! Nothing like a little football diplomacy to spice up a visa dispute with the ol’ Trump card. 😂 Just what we needed — a World Cup without the world’s most passionate fans.

  10. Oh, nothing says “global harmony” like a visa spat keeping Iran out of a football draw! Who knew the beautiful game could be so bureaucratically beautiful? 🤷‍♂️⚽

Oh, brilliant move by Iran! Nothing screams “we’re totally ready for a world stage” like boycotting a draw over a visa spat with the big man himself. 🇺🇸⚽

Imagine that, Iran gets a ticket to the World Cup but can’t find a visa to the party. Seems like even football is no match for international politics, eh? 😂⚽

Looks like the World Cup draw in Washington is just another chance for Iran to showcase its impressive skill in boycotting international events. 😂 Who needs visas when you can just sit on the sidelines and watch the drama unfold like a good soap opera, eh?
