Heusden-Zolder’s Damhert Recalls Coconut Digestives Due to Metal Risk

Heusden-Zolder (Brussels Morning Newspaper) – Damhert Nutrition, a food company based in Heusden-Zolder, recalled “Gluten‑Free Coconut Digestives” (lot L250781, AN 5412158054746, BBD July 31, 2026) after Belgian inspectors warned of metal fragments. Spokesperson Karolien Serves urged returns.

As VRT News reported, Heusden-Zolder’s Damhert Nutrition’s coconut‑flavoured “Gluten‑Free Coconut Digestives” biscuits have been withdrawn from sale after Belgian food safety inspectors warned that some batches may contain metal fragments. The affected products were part of the company’s gluten‑free and lactose‑free range, sold as a healthier snack alternative.

What’s behind Heusden-Zolder’s Damhert recall of coconut digestives?

Officials mentioned that the recall affects several lots of these coconut digestives, which list corn starch, gluten‑free oat flour, coconut flour and fat, rice flour, sugar and other typical biscuit ingredients on the label. Authorities have urged consumers not to eat the cookies under any circumstances and asked retailers to immediately remove the packs from shelves.

“If you have this item in your possession, please return it to your point of sale so we can refund your purchase price,”

the press release states.

The company says that only a specific line of cookies is affected.

“The manufacturer informed us that one of the ingredients in these specific cookies might contain metal. We obviously can’t take any risks,”

says spokesperson Karolien Serves.

“Fortunately, it’s only a small quantity of cookies,”

says Serves.

“However, I want to emphasise again that anyone who has these cookies at home can return them to their point of sale.”

The recalled products carry lot number L250781, AN code 5412158054746, and a best-before date of July 31, 2026. Consumers are urged to check their packages to see if they have the affected biscuits. Damhert Nutrition advises anyone with questions to contact the company directly.

Contamination in food products has been a recurring issue both in Belgium and other parts of the world. In 2015, Damhert Nutrition removed some chocolate bars from its inventory due to contamination concerns.

Between 2020 and 2023, numerous gluten-free foods, including cereal bars and biscuits, were recalled from Europe for having allergens that were not declared on the label or for containing pieces of metal.

Many other large companies (e.g., Nestlé, Kellogg’s, and Mondelēz) have had to recall various products because of safety problems due to foreign objects found within the product or incorrect labelling.

Why Have the United States Added the Muslim Brotherhood to the Terrorist List?

The United States’ recent classification of certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations indicates a significant strategic change in Washington’s stance towards political Islam. Historically, the U.S. held a cautious and sometimes unclear position on the Brotherhood, founded in 1928 in Egypt by Hassan al-Banna. The group was alternately seen as an Islamist pol
