Kortrijk Police Alert: Roaming Theft Gangs Linked to 10 Burglaries

Kortrijk (Eurotoday) – Kortrijk police, led by VLAS spokesperson Thomas Detavernier, warn residents of roaming burglary gangs. They advise securing windows, removing climbable objects, and reporting suspicious activity to prevent theft.

As VRT News reported, police in Kortrijk are warning residents to be careful after several burglaries by roaming gangs. The criminals target houses with alarms only on the ground floor. Thomas Detavernier, spokesperson for the VLAS police zone, said,

“During the burglary, the thieves remain on the upper floors and only search the bathroom, bedrooms, and so on. They then leave the house the same way they entered.”

What are the Kortrijk police doing to stop roaming burglary gangs?

Authorities advise homeowners to take precautions to reduce the risk of burglary. They mentioned that ladders, garden furniture, or other items that can be climbed on should not be left outside. Windows on all floors should be closed and locked. Valuables should not be visible from the outside.

Police are also urging residents to report any unusual or suspicious activity immediately. They said that staying alert is key to preventing crime. Quick reporting can help police respond faster and stop thefts.

In the last few months, Kortrijk has had a lot of burglaries, and the city authorities have also been working on the issue. The weekend of October 19-20, 2025, the city recorded 10 burglaries and thefts, and most of those were from parked cars. Cash, laptops, and car keys were reported missing. Locals are being told by police to lock their cars and hide their valuables. The police are reviewing camera footage as well as looking for suspects.

In February 2025, the Marke police department implemented law enforcement tactics to help with the increasing burglary calls to the Rodenburg area. Among those tactics is the use of mobile cameras, which can track burglars in real-time.

Brilliant, just what we needed—burglars treating our homes like buffet tables and the police advising us to play hide and seek with our valuables. 🙄 Maybe they should also suggest we invite the thieves in for a cuppa while we’re at it! 🍵

Seems like the burglars in Kortrijk have taken “upstairs living” a bit too literally! 😂 Time to invest in some high-quality locks and perhaps a ‘no climbing’ sign for the garden furniture, eh?

Seems like the burglars in Kortrijk are really taking the scenic route through the house, eh? Next, they’ll be setting up a lovely tea party in the living room while they’re at it! 😂🔍

  4. Just what we needed—another reminder that our charming little Kortrijk is a hotspot for upper-floor thieves! 😏 Maybe they should start offering guided tours; at least then we’d get some entertainment out of it!

Just what we needed, a professional advice column on how to keep our homes safe from burglars who clearly have a knack for interior design—who knew the bathroom was such a hotspot? 🤔 Better lock up the ladders and garden gnomes, or we might just find a gang of thieves redecorating our living rooms next! 🏡💼
