Brussels – European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, will visit Bucharest on Monday for discussions with Romanian officials, including President Nicuşor Dan, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs Cătălin Predoiu, and members of the parliamentary committees for European affairs and defense.
This visit aligns with the European Commission’s efforts to enhance support through the internal security strategy, ProtectEU, aimed at addressing human trafficking, organized crime, critical infrastructure protection, and cybercrime, as highlighted in a press release from the European Commission’s Representation in Romania.
Commissioner Brunner seeks to engage with Romania regarding its security challenges, noting the country’s vital role in the European security framework.
Romania offers valuable insights, particularly in safeguarding its external borders and countering hybrid threats from Russia, such as disinformation and drone activities. In response, the Commission plans to introduce the European Democracy Shield this year and initiate the European Defense Initiative against drones next year, with an additional allocation of 250 million euros for civilian drones and countermeasures, according to the statement.(19.10.2025)
