Pashinyan emphasized, “Armenia’s future involves bolstering independence, statehood, democracy, and rule of law,” speaking to reporters post-voting Sunday morning. He affirmed commitment to democratic reforms with European Union support.
The Central Election Commission will release preliminary results on Monday.
Elections faced concerns about Russian interference. Authorities revealed over 40 arrests tied to suspected vote-buying, linked to a large-scale scheme reportedly involving Strong Armenia, as per state media.
Media sources noted six warrants targeted Karapetyan’s party members.
Karapetyan stated the arrests “won’t sway Armenian voters.” Campaigning under house arrest since last July for alleged power usurpation calls, he dismissed the charges as politically driven.
After casting his vote, Karapetyan briefly addressed media before leaving. He expressed optimism about Armenia finally electing a legitimate government, according to the Associated Press.
