Ministers Conferred on Enhancing Transport Connectivity in Southeast Europe at Sofia Conference

SOFIAA ministerial conference focused on enhancing transport connectivity in Southeast Europe was held under the guidance of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdian Karadzhov, as reported by the ministry’s press center. This event is part of Sofia’s presidency of the Cooperation Process in Southeast Europe.

“Regional connectivity is central to our presidency. It is crucial for economic growth, security, and integrating the region into European networks,” Minister Karadzhov stated during the forum’s opening.

We are investing more than 1.5 billion euros to modernize the railway line from Sofia to Gyueshevo (Western Bulgaria, bordering the Republic of North Macedonia). This strategic project is part of the European corridor “Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean,” ensuring a fast connection to Skopje and Tirana, he added. “Additionally, we are modernizing the Sofia – Kalotina line with European funds and progressing with Ankara on a new railway project linking Yambol (Southeastern Bulgaria) – Elhovo – Lesovo – Edirne. This embodies our vision for genuine regional connectivity,” Karadzhov mentioned.

“The final section of the ‘Europe’ highway is complete. Our next goal is the ‘Black Sea’ highway – a vital project for freight and passenger transport in both directions,” the transport minister noted. “We plan to build a new highway starting from Ruse (on the Danube River) that will go under the Stara Planina to our southern border,” Karadzhov explained.

The enhancement of the ports in Varna and Burgas (Eastern Bulgaria) is also a top priority. By the end of 2025, we will commence a public-private partnership process for the Varna-East and Varna-West terminals. These will serve as crucial logistics hubs between Europe and Asia, part of the Trans-Caspian (Middle) corridor, the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

The conference saw the participation of transport ministers from Ankara, Athens, Pristina, as well as state secretaries from Bucharest, Belgrade, Skopje, and Podgorica, alongside the Secretary General of the International Transport Forum Yong Tae Kim and diplomatic representatives from the participating countries in Sofia.

This summer, Albania passed the presidency of the Cooperation Process in Southeast Europe to Bulgaria. (October 16)

  1. Looks like the ministers are on a grand tour of ‘let’s connect the dots’ while the trains are still running on dreams and hopes. 🚂💭 How charmingly optimistic!

Oh, splendid! A conference about transport connectivity – because nothing says “progress” like a dozen ministers getting together to discuss roads and rails while the trains still run like snails. 🚂💨 Isn’t Europe just a marvel of speed these days?

Isn’t it adorable how they’re pouring billions into railways while everyone else is still trying to figure out how to not lose their luggage at the airport? 🚄💸

Transport connectivity, eh? Just what we need—more ministers getting together to discuss how to move from one place to another faster. Let’s just hope they don’t end up stuck in traffic on their way to the next conference! 🚦😂

Looks like the ministers had a lovely chat about transport connectivity while the roads are still as bumpy as a Balkan backroad. Can’t wait for the “Europe” highway to finally reach my doorstep—maybe by the time my grandkids are driving! 🚗💨

Ah yes, nothing screams “efficiency” like a conference on transport connectivity in a region known for its potholes! 🚧💼 I suppose next they’ll be discussing how to turn traffic jams into a tourist attraction.

Oh joy, another conference where ministers gather to discuss transport connectivity like it’s the latest trend in high fashion. Can’t wait to see these “vital” projects become as real as the promises made at last year’s event! 🚂✈️

Right, because nothing says “let’s modernize our transport” like a conference in a city known for its traffic jams. 🚦💼 Let’s hope these ministers can connect the dots faster than they connect their flights!

  9. Transport connectivity in Southeast Europe? Oh, how thrilling! Nothing says progress like a billion-euro investment in a railway line that’s been “modernized” for the umpteenth time. 🚆💸

Isn’t it delightful how a bunch of ministers can gather in Sofia to chat about transport connectivity while we’re all still stuck in traffic on our charmingly outdated roads? 😂 Can’t wait to see those billion-euro railways—maybe they’ll even arrive on time!

Transport connectivity, eh? Seems like the only thing moving faster than these projects is the sound of empty promises. 🚧💼

Oh sure, just what we need, another conference to discuss enhancing transport connectivity—because sitting in traffic is obviously not a big enough issue in Southeast Europe. 🚦💼

Oh, splendid! Just what we needed—more meetings about transport connectivity. Because who doesn’t love a good chat about highways and railways while we’re still waiting for the last one to be built? 🚧✈️

  14. Ah, the Sofia conference – where ministers gather to discuss “enhancing connectivity” while most of us can’t even connect to the Wi-Fi in our hotels. 🤷‍♂️ It’s like planning a grand feast while starving right outside the kitchen! 🍽️

Another conference, another round of promises – just what we needed! 🚄 If only transport connectivity could magically fix all our regional issues as quickly as they’re announcing these multi-billion euro plans. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like Sofia’s really gearing up to become the next transport hub of Europe—next stop, the moon! 🚀 Meanwhile, I hope they remember to pack a few extra euros for those “vital” highways; can’t have too much connectivity, right? 😏

  17. Whip Chu Avatar

Transport connectivity in Southeast Europe? Brilliant! Because who wouldn’t want to spend 1.5 billion euros making sure we can all reach the next traffic jam a bit faster? 🚦💸

  18. Looks like the ministers gathered to chart a course for transport connectivity—how quaint! 🚄 Meanwhile, I’ll just stick to the good old Balkan roads, which might actually get me there faster than all this grand talk of modernization. 😂

  19. Transport connectivity, eh? Sounds like they’re finally getting around to fixing the roads, or is it just another excuse to practice their “let’s have a meeting” skills? 🚗💨

  20. Mint Ness Avatar

Oh, splendid! More meetings and grand plans while the trains still run slower than a snail on holiday. 🚂💨 I’m sure all those billions will magically fix the transport mess… or at least give us a nice view of the scenery while we wait! 😏
