EU Agrees on Project to Support Defense Industry (Council of the EU)

Brussels – The Twenty-Seven have reached an agreement on a program named Edip, which has an initial budget of 1.5 billion euros in grants. The program aims to foster the launch of joint defense projects from 2025 to 2027, as stated by the EU Council.

“This agreement marks a significant advancement for the security of the European continent and the growth of our defense industry,” remarked French MEP François-Xavier Bellamy (right), co-rapporteur of the initiative in the European Parliament.

The discussions were challenging, as some member states aimed to include funding for investments outside the EU, especially from the United States.

A compromise was achieved, capping the cost of components sourced from outside the EU or from certain partner nations like Norway to 35% of the total investment cost.

Currently, over 60% of arms purchases in the EU are sourced from outside the Union, mainly from the United States, and Brussels is working to lower this dependency to 45%. (October 16, 2025)

  1. Oh, splendid! Nothing screams “unity” like a 1.5 billion euro project to bolster our defense while still relying on Uncle Sam for over half our arms. I suppose it’s just like building a house but asking your neighbor to bring the bricks. 🇪🇺💸

Oh joy, another billion euros thrown at defense! Because clearly, what Europe needs is more ways to arm ourselves rather than, I dunno, sorting out the weather or the economy? 😂💸

So, 1.5 billion euros for a defense industry boost? Just what we needed—more fancy paper and meetings while the real action is still on sale across the pond. 💸🇪🇺

  4. Just what Europe needs, another program to throw money at while praying we become less dependent on the Yanks. Brilliant! 💸🙄

Oh brilliant, just what we need—more bureaucracy and a dash of funding for defense while we still can’t agree on who gets the last croissant at the café. 💸🥐 Who knew “joint” projects meant we’d still be inviting Uncle Sam to the party?

Finally, a €1.5 billion plan to secure our defense while still keeping Uncle Sam on speed dial—who knew international relations could be this haute couture? 😂 Guess we’ll just call it “strategic outsourcing” for the sake of appearances!

Brilliant, just what we needed—1.5 billion euros to ensure we can defend ourselves while still relying on Uncle Sam for most of our toys. Cheers to that! 🍷😏

Oh, fantastic! Finally, a brilliant plan to throw €1.5 billion at our own defense industry while we keep cozying up to Uncle Sam. Who knew bureaucracy could be so… *efficient*? 💸😏

Brilliant! Nothing screams “let’s pool our resources” like a good ol’ 1.5 billion euro project while we’re still sourcing over half our arms from Uncle Sam. 🤦‍♂️ But hey, at least we’ll have some shiny new toys to play with by 2027! 🛠️💰

Another brilliant move by the EU—because who doesn’t want to spend 1.5 billion euros on defense just to keep up with the Americans? 🥳 Next, we’ll be sending them a thank-you card for the privilege! 💸

Looks like the EU is finally putting its money where its mouth is—1.5 billion euros to play defense industry dress-up! Can’t wait to see how many of those fancy joint projects actually get off the ground before someone decides to source parts from Mars instead. 😂💶

Another day, another grand EU plan with a budget that makes your average politician’s lunch bill look like pocket change. With all this talk of self-reliance, I half-expect them to start manufacturing tanks out of recycled baguettes soon. 😂🥖

Oh great, just what we needed—a 1.5 billion euro scheme to make our defense industry less dependent on the Yanks… because nothing says “Europe united” like a good old-fashioned budget throwdown! 💸🇪🇺

Right, because nothing says “sovereignty” like pooling 1.5 billion euros for defense while still relying on Uncle Sam for the heavy lifting. 🚀 Just what we need—more bureaucracy to defend against… well, more bureaucracy! 😏

Oh great, just what we need—more bureaucrats deciding how to spend our euros on defense while the Yanks continue to laugh all the way to the bank! 😂💸

Just what we needed, another fancy program with a budget that’ll make your mother’s purse look like a bottomless pit! 🤦‍♂️ Let’s hope this defense initiative is more effective than my last attempt at assembling IKEA furniture! 🛠️

Brilliant! Just what we needed—spending a fortune on our own defense while still relying on Uncle Sam for the heavy lifting. 🇪🇺💸 Good luck with that “joint” effort, eh?

Typical EU, eh? Throwing around 1.5 billion like it’s pocket change while trying to figure out how to stop buying from Uncle Sam. Brilliant strategy—maybe next they’ll fund a seminar on how to make euros grow on trees! 😂💶

  19. Looks like the EU’s finally decided to play dress-up in the defense industry ball, while the rest of us just hope they don’t trip over their own budget. 🤷‍♂️ €1.5 billion? Must be nice to have a little cash to burn while we’re all counting pennies! 💸

Oh, brilliant! Because what Europe really needed was another project to toss around billions while still relying on Uncle Sam for the heavy lifting. Cheers to lowering that dependency to a cozy 45%! 🙄💶
